Elkin Municipal ParkThis 25-acre park offers something for everyone, including swimming pool, lighted tennis courts, walking trails, bandshell, picnic shelters, playground and the Elkin Recreation Center. The picturesque park is also the trailhead to Elkin's scenic hiking and mountain biking trails along the banks of the Big Elkin Creek. North Carolina's Mountains-to-Sea Trail runs through the park.

Overmountain Victory National Historic TrailThis historic trail traces the route of a patriot militia known as the "Overmountain Men" leading to the battle of Kings Mountain, South Carolina, during the Revolutionary War. A trailhead is located in downtown Elkin.

Pilot Mountain State ParkPilot Mountain State Park is anchored by the rocky peak that provides its name. The 3,735-acre park is comprised of two sections - the Mountain section and the Yadkin River section. The two sections are connected by a 6.5-mile trail corridor. The Mountain section is the more popular of the two. It is home to the signature peak, as well as the park office, nine hiking trails, a horseback trail, parking area, camping, rock climbing and rappelling. The Yadkin River section has five hiking trails, a horse trail, canoe launch and canoe-in camping.

Stone Mountain State ParkStone Mountain State Park is located about 20 miles northwest of Elkin near the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are more than 18 miles of trails in the park, and a segment of NC's Mountains to the Sea Trail stretches 21 miles from the state park to Elkin. Trout fishing is available in more than 20 miles of designated trout waters in this park, and rock climbing is allowed by permit on the towering, 600-foot granite face of the landmark mountain.
