Behind the Scenes with Ethan Brown, Winemaker
Meet the winemaker at Shelton Vineyards in Dobson and learn more about the process of making wine. Ethan Brown, a Surry County native, became winemaker in 2018 at Shelton Vineyards, the largest family-owned estate winery in North Carolina.
Brown is a graduate of the winemaking school at nearby Surry Community College. Winery founders Ed and Charlie Shelton helped establish that program years ago after they opened their winery and had to search elsewhere for winemaking talent.
The day begins with a behind-the-scenes tour led by Ethan. The tour wraps up with a tank tasting where Ethan explains each selection. Guests then have lunch at Harvest Grill with a menu prepared by Chef Frances and paired with three Shelton Vineyards wines.
Guests receive special goodies to take home to remember their time with the winemaker and chef at Shelton Vineyards.
