Live music, local crafts, musical history, and more await you on your cultural weekend through Surry County. By starting Thursday evening, you’ll hit all the live events at just the right time, making the most of your Very Surry Experience.

Thurs & Fri:Enjoy a live Thursday Night Jam Session as you make your way into town. The followingday, check out the history of musical legends and several local art galleries.

Sat:Wake up to more live music before heading to the Blue Ridge Music Center for hiking, history and anighttime outdoor performance.

Begin your journey on a Thursday Evening, at the Andy Griffith Playhouse in Mount Airy, where folks come to play, sing, dance and listen to the weekly Thursday Night Jam Session.

Friday Morning, check out theMount Airy Museum of Regional History. Among numerous other exhibits are thehistory of Old-time music legend Tommy Jarrell and the Donna Fargo Collection. The Collection includes stage outfits, photographs, records and other memorabilia of the Grammy Award winning country music star.

After lunch at one of the quaint diners in Mount Airy’s historic district, stop in The Gallery Group just around the corner to view works of local artists.

Then, make your way to downtown Elkin to visit a host of one-of-a-kind shops and galleries, including the Yadkin Valley Craft Guild’s Gallery Shop. Dine at one of Elkin’s fine restaurants for dinner. For a complete list of restaurants,visit and go to Dining.

If you are fortunate enough to visit Elkin on a seasonal Fourth Friday, spend the evening hours strolling down the blocked off Main Street and enjoy live music as you browse the open-late shops and galleries.

Saturday Morning, visit Mount Airy’sDowntown Cinema Historic Theatrefor a 90-minute Old-time music jamsession featuring some of the mountain area’s local pickers.

After lunch, take a scenic drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Blue Ridge Music Center in Galax, VA. Spend the afternoon touring the Center’s exhibits, which trace the history of American roots music, and hiking one of the Center’s outdoor trails.

Finish off the evening by relaxing to a concert at the Blue Ridge Music Center’s outdoor amphitheater.
