The Martha Bassett Show - Season Premiere with Jess Klein + More
Event
Elkin's beloved live variety show returns for its sixth season. Shows take place every first and third Thursday from February through October at Reeves Theater.
Headlining the season premiere is Jess Klein. Across two decades and 11 albums, Klein has pursued a remarkable creative evolution that’s seen her dig ever deeper for resonant emotional insights, while continuing to refine her eloquently melodic, effortlessly accessible song-craft. The Rochester, New York, native began writing songs as a college student in Kingston, Jamaica, and is known for staking out brave lyrical and musical territory. In 2016, Klein and her songwriter husband moved to Hillsborough, North Carolina.
Also performing for the evening are Charles Latham and the Borrowed Band, and Sonny Miles. Based in Durham, Latham and his band promise a dynamic and energetic live show falling into a genre best described as psychedelic country-rock. NC-native Sonny Miles draws on his gospel and rock roots, as well as influences from '70s soul and hip-hop.
The Martha Bassett Show is modeled on old-time radio shows with a hint of the modern. It draws on influences from far and wide, but maintains the distinct feel and flair of North Carolina's Piedmont region. Host Martha Bassett has been making music in NC and beyond for more than 20 years.
