Music at the Market: Slate Mountain Ramblers

Good food, agriculture and bluegrass pickin' are staples in Surry County. This summer and fall, these three regional hallmarks come together with the Music at the Market concert series on Friday evenings at Dobson Farmers Market.

The Slate Mountain Ramblers is a family old-time band from Mount Airy. They formerly lived in Ararat, Virginia, a small community at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. For many years, Richard Bowman; his wife, Barbara; and their daughter Marsha have spent weekends playing music. Richard plays fiddle, Barbara the bass and Marsha the claw-hammer banjo. The band has a winning tradition at fiddler’s conventions throughout the years.

Food trucks for the evening are Mermaids on the Go (fried seafood) and Station 1978 Firehouse Peanuts.

Food trucks begin serving at 6 p.m., and bluegrass pickin' starts at 7 p.m. Admission is free. Lawn chairs encouraged.
