Horne Creek volunteers and staff will display a variety of old hit-and-miss engines, ranging from ¾ horsepower to 12 horsepower.
Manufacturers on display include Stover, Hercules, International Harvester, John Deere and Fairbanks Morse. Hit-and-miss engines are a type of four-stroke internal combustion engine controlled by a governor to operate at a set speed.
A variety of tractors, a Maytag washing machine, ice cream freezers, a wood saw, a grist mill and a '49 Willis Jeep are a few examples of equipment that will be powered by the engines.
The day also includes a quilt exhibition.
Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Historic Downtown Elkin Main Street, Elkin, NC 28621The Yadkin Valley Pumpkin Festival is held in Historic Downtown Elkin on the 4th Saturday in September from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. The Main Street of Elkin will be filled with live music, and vendors of every description featuring everything from antiques, jump houses, and funnel cakes to functional pottery, pumpkin painting, wood furnishings, wine racks, BBQ, baked goods, sand art, pumpkin butter, polish sausages, handcrafted gifts and so much more. -

Surry Community College 630 S Main St, Dobson, NC 27017Surry Community College will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States on Wednesday, June 24, at the Dobson campus. The event begins with a Liberty Tree Dedication at 11 a.m., followed by an Ice Cream Social at noon and a Genealogy Workshop at 1 p.m. on the second floor of the SCC Library. Community members are invited to join this special day of history, heritage, and celebration.
