Light Up Night
Event
Every year, the Yadkin Valley foothills town of Elkin celebrates the start of the holiday season by lighting up Main Street the first Friday in December.
The first sign of Christmas is the arrival of Santa’s Mailbox at the Rock Facade Park. Downtown merchants line their storefront windows with the warm glow of twinkle lights. And the music of the season is heard all around town.
Beginning at 6:30 p.m., Foothills Arts Center hosts the Historic Downtown Elkin tree lighting ceremony and visits with Santa Claus. The popular Merry Makers Market at the arts center is open from 6:30-9:30 p.m. that Friday, and noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday. Looping hayrides depart from the arts center and circle through downtown.
Elkin Big Band performs at Reeves Theater at 7 p.m.
Local merchants have special offerings that night and throughout the weekend.
