Celebrate Surry County's tastiest treat at the annual Sonker Festival. Devotees of this decadent dessert gather to share family recipes and sample different flavors. The cobbler-like confection is unique to Surry County and even has its own trail.
The event — presented by the Surry County Historical Society — takes place on the grounds of the stately Edwards-Franklin House. Old-time and bluegrass music and flat-foot dancing add to the festivities.
Admission is free with a nominal fee for sonker and beverages. Lawn chairs recommended.
