Official Release Party of Betty Lynn's Autobiography "Becoming Thelma Lou"

The posthumous autobiography of Betty Lynn, beloved actress from "The Andy Griffith Show" who lived the final years of her life in Mount Airy, will be officially released at a celebration from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Andy Griffith Museum, which is also home of the permanent Betty Lynn Exhibit.

The book, titled "Becoming Thelma Lou — My Journey to Hollywood, Mayberry and Beyond," will delight fans with an inside look at a life filled with interesting adventures and fascinating people.

In her own words and augmented by 140 rare photos, Betty shares the sometimes bittersweet, often surprising and always inspiring story of a lifetime that took her from wartime service in India and Burma to sharing the spotlight with entertainment royalty first in New York, and then on to Hollywood.

The release date coincides with what would have been her 96th birthday. Betty died in Mount Airy on October 16, 2021, while in the midst of putting the finishing touches on her life story. Co-authors are Jim Clark, author of 24 books and founder of The Andy Griffith Re-Run Watchers Club, and Tim McAbee, an event promoter (including several Mayberry cast reunions) and documentary film producer.

The book is being released by BearManor Media and will be available in hardcover at the event for $40. Door prizes and other festivities are planned. For more info contact Abigail Linville, the museum's director of collections and exhibitions, at [email protected].
