Hidden for more than a century on private land, Carter Falls is now accessible via a 0.5-mile trail (one way). Hike goes through an old-growth forest before revealing the stunning falls.
The Elkin & Alleghany Rail Trail is a two-mile trail (one way) following the old E&A Railroad bed along Big Elkin Creek. The trailhead is at Elkin Municipal Park in the heart of Yadkin Valley, NC.
This 25-acre park offers something for all, including swimming pool, lighted tennis courts, walking trails, bandshell, picnic shelters, playground and the Elkin Recreation Center.
NC's first "forest bathing" trail is at Grassy Creek Vineyard. Named the Klondike Lake Trail, the one-mile trail adheres to the Japanese concept of forest bathing, meaning "therapy in nature."
This historic trail traces the route of a patriot militia known as the "Overmountain Men" leading to the battle of Kings Mountain, South Carolina, during the Revolutionary War.
