The Balladeer Hotel Announces New Dining and Event Destinations in Mount Airy
Balladeer team to offer chef-driven cuisine at Fablewood alongside an elevated event space at Velora on Willow, set to open downtown in 2026.
MT. AIRY, DECEMBER 19, 2025 – As part of the transformation of the historic Spencer’s Mill into The Balladeer Hotel, set to open in 2026, Sunhouse Hospitality is proud to introduce the hotel’s on-site restaurant and event venue: Fablewood, a classic Southern steakhouse, and Velora on Willow, a venue for elevated gatherings in the heart of Mount Airy.
Both spaces will be located in the iconic Barrel Building, which neighbors the hotel and serves as a centerpiece of the district’s revitalization. Together with the planned pocket park, these concepts extend The Balladeer’s celebration of the stories, craft, and community of America’s Favorite Hometown. Guests will find a modern classic at Fablewood, a warm, Southern gathering place featuring steak and seafood. The name is inspired by the meandering stories and tall tales shared around the table.
“This restaurant and event venue are an extension of The Balladeer story, and really, the Mount Airy story,” said Srikanth Kamma, owner of Sunhouse Hospitality. “Our goal is to create something really special that locals will love and return to, and where visitors can experience the heart of Mount Airy.”
Chef Freddy Lee comes to Fablewood with more than 35 years of restaurant experience—both in New York City and in the South. He helms several restaurants, including Spotted Cow Steakhouse, Bernardins, Bleu, Cibo, and many others.
“I’m honored to bring Fablewood to life,” said Chef Freddy Lee. “This location is right in the middle of a growing district, and I’m excited to serve excellent steak and seafood in the heart of downtown.”
Just next door, Velora on Willow offers a sophisticated venue for weddings, celebrations, corporate events, and privatedinners. With space for up to 250 guests, Velora flows seamlessly between indoor halls, a spacious patio, and a courtyard that spills into the pocket park on Willow Street.
Fablewood and Velora on Willow build on the momentum created by The Balladeer Hotel as it continues to work toward a 2026 opening. As anchors in the Spencer’s Mill redevelopment, the restaurants will contribute to a thriving, walkable district steps from Market Street.
Both restaurants are being developed in collaboration with Cornerstone Hospitality, Rowhouse Architects, IIG Design, Christman Construction, and branding agency Cooper House.
